Allow me to have a fan girl moment as I chat this week with the irrepressible Judette Coward, a former award winning journalist and news producer. Judette has been involved in the public affairs, communications, public relations and media profession for over 15 years. She is the Founding President of International Association of Business Communicators Trinidad and Tobago and currently serves on its Executive Board. She served as a speech writer for a former Prime Minister. Judette is a widely networked media practitioner whose columns about the practice of PR still appear in national and regional newspapers including the Barbados Nation, Guyana Stabroeck and Newsday.
More recently, Judette is the founder and creative force of Forward Forty a hub for women with a discerning palette, who believe that success and beauty can be had at any age. Taking a leap of faith by moving to a foreign country 8000 miles away from home (at the age of 18), Zoë started her first business at 19, (Swalings Antigua) which has positively impacted the lives of an entire generation of Antiguan children over the course of the past 14 years. Teaching them life skills such as team work, self-respect, respect for others, time management and discipline using sport as a vehicle to do this.
Over the past 8 years Swalings has raised sponsorship to award 600 plus children full scholarships to their programmes and works closely with local charitable and social transformation, organisations. Empowering youths especially young girls is very close to her heart. Over the years Zoë has started a number of other businesses both in Antigua as well as in the UK and USA, a truly global business women on a mission. In recent years another passion ignited her latest business ‘Intuitive Fitness’ again empowering others to live healthy, happier lifestyles. Self-development, growth, transformation, positive mind set.

In conversation with Alison Sly-Adams of Mainstay Caribbean. Alison was born in the UK and moved to Antigua with her Antiguan husband in 2003 where they took ownership of the biggest online guide to Antigua, Antiguanice.com. Within three years she was invited to be on the board of the Antigua and Hotel and Tourism Assocition, the then owners of Antigua Sailing Week. The role was initially local marketing coordinator which quickly developed into an international marketing role. Since 2011 as Commercial Director role she has taken on responsibility for all commercial decisions, sponsorship, marketing and shoreside event organization. She is also an active board member of the Antigua and Barbuda Marine Association (ABMA) Board. Alison also owns a digital marketing and management agency, Mainstay Caribbean Ltd. which is responsible for the Secretariat functions of both the Caribbean Sailing Association and the ABMA as well as digital marketing strategy and management for other companies.

This week I'm in conversation with Dionne Clarke-Emtage. Dionne joined a major telecommunications company two and a half years ago as Commercial Manager in St. Vincent. Within a year, she was promoted to the Head of Mobile Operations in that country overseeing six departments. Returning to Barbados, she was appointed as the Head of Commercial with the key responsibility of driving the strategy and implementation of products and revenue in the Barbados. Within six months was promoted to Director of Sales & Service overseeing all aspects of sales and service for both the traditional mobile business and the new cable & broadband service.
A similar pattern exists in her early career from humble beginnings as a temporary worker holding down a summer job to becoming the Assistant to the Regional Chief Operating Officer for another telecommunications giant in a few short years.
Her early days however saw her pursuing a different goal exploring her more creative side. She had her own editorial in a local newspaper at the age of 16, and her own publication launched at the age of 17. She is the winner of several national and regional writing and speech competitions and continues to pursue her love of writing by publishing her first novel in 2015 with several more lined up in the upcoming year.
She is a mother and a wife first and foremost and has dedicated her life to God and can attest her success to her relationship with her higher power.
