Yet another fan girl moment, as I chat to Monica Godfrey - Garrison.
Monica Garrison is the founder of a growing organization called Black Girls Do Bike. She believes that the simple act of riding a bike can be the catalyst to wonderful and empowering experiences for women of all ages. At first it was a genuine question: "Do black girls bike?" But quickly, for Garrison, it became a call to action. Now her website, BlackGirlsDoBike.com, has become a nationwide network of thousands of women of color connecting through bicycling.
What started as a simple idea to connect lady cyclists has turned into an international movement of life changing self-care and community building.

I'll be sharing past episodes of #PhenomenalWoman that are full of fabulous insight and inspiration. Listen to episode 18 with Amy Grant. Enjoy!
I just love how this podcast gives me the opportunity to go behind the face of the women we see everyday, especially within corporate scenarios and this week is no exception Amy Grant is a self-proclaimed travel junkie in love with foreign cultures, experiences and the inevitable commonalities always connecting even the most distinct societies. Amy’s love of travel began when she was a little girl in Englewood, NJ and was nurtured through her study abroad experiences in High School and Spelman College to Eastern Europe and the UK. This led to her the completion of her BA in History and Master of Science in Foreign Service from Georgetown University where she spent her summer in Honduras interning at the US Embassy in Tegucigalpa. Amy channeled her love of culture and history into a successful Marketing Career where for the last 15 years, she has specialized in building Marketing Communication programs based on morphing cultural and generational insights into dynamic and integrated campaigns designed to bring Brands closer to their target markets. Amy has served in this capacity for companies in the Pharmaceutical, Tourism, Entertainment and Telecommunication industries. Amy spent 11 years at Verizon where she was responsible for its National Promotional advertising and led integrated broadcast and digital marketing initiatives targeting the US Wireless’ division Mass, Multicultural and Millennial segments. Currently, Amy is Head of Brand and Consumer at Digicel Caribbean Limited, a Global Telecom and Entertainment provider operating in the Caribbean, South Pacific and Central America. She is responsible for all Brand Positioning, Regional Marketing Communications and Insights. Amy is based out of St. Lucia. Besides her love of travel, she enjoys spending time with her two nephews, is an active member of her sorority, Alpha Kappa Alpha and has just finished a documentary entitled “Two Deaths” which documents the last days of her mother’s bout with Alzheimer’s.

I'll be sharing past episodes of #PhenomenalWoman that are full of fabulous insight and inspiration. Enjoy episode 14 with Wendi Wright. Enjoy!
Since our recording Wendi is following her passion with photography with beautiful results. You can see her work via instagram Shephtogs
My name is Wendi Wright. I was born & raised in Jamaica. And yes, I have that indelible Jamaican pride! I say that because from humble beginnings, I was raised on hard work & manners is due to every man, woman and child. To do my picture justice, I tick all the main ethnic boxes. I grew up on the teachings of Marcus Garvey; the music of Bob Marley, Beanie man & Bounti Killer and many more; an English educational system & spelling; Indian food, seasonings & spices; Chinese culture & food; all while in America's backyard of political influence & their cable TV! For the past 9 years, I have been living amongst the diverse cultures & palm trees in Miami, Florida.
I won’t bore you with the degrees or letters behind my name. My 3 degrees come from Universities in Caribbean, UK & USA. The stories behind achieving each would have to be 3 long chapters in my lifetime biography. I have spent much of my career in the Telecommunications industry in the Caribbean. My present role is representing the Caribbean in the Diaspora market and managing marketing & product operations across multiple Caribbean markets. My education, work & current life have afforded me the opportunity to live & meet people from across every corner of the world.
All the good stuff aside, I know what it feels like to physically lose everything I own at the hands of a hurricane. That would be 2 pivotal chapters of my lifetime biography! I have also taken 2 major leaps of faith moving to different countries to pursue education & work. My mother would say because I was born premature, fighting for my life was ingrained into my core from day 0. I haven’t yet ticked all the boxes society says I should. But hey, that’s society’s problem! I know that I am right where I am supposed to be according to God’s plan as a part of his infinite universe. My hobbies are yoga & photography. You can find me on Linkedin or contact me at wendi.wright@outlook.com Issa wrap! Nuff Blessings!

Real Talk......How to return to work after a career break
Saturday Aug 25, 2018
Saturday Aug 25, 2018
The four most common reasons for women pausing their careers are marriage, relocation, childbirth and caring for the elderly, and the breaks can range from 6 months to 15 years. An unplanned career break can spell disaster for most professionals and unfortunately, many women who interrupt their careers for personal reasons, do so without a plan in mind. Whatever the motives you had for taking a career break, finding a job can be daunting enough, but it can be even more unnerving once you’ve taken a break from leadership. So how can you transition back into the corporate world?
